Spinner Rings: Jewelry You Can't Help but Touch
Some jewelry is meant to be admired. Some jewelry is meant to be worn. Spinner rings are designed to be both!
A spinner ring, sometimes called a meditation ring or worry ring, consists of two parts: a wide base ring and one or more outer bands that spin freely around it. The movement is smooth, satisfying, and surprisingly relaxing.
How a Spinner Ring Works
The foundation of the ring is a wide band that fits comfortably on your finger. Around that band are one or more narrower rings that rotate independently.
The spinners I make typically consist of a handcrafted base of sterling silver. The spinning band may be made from gold-filled wire, creating a warm contrast against the cool silver while adding visual interest, or textured sterling wire - with or without an added small gem!
The result is jewelry that is both beautiful and interactive.
More Than Decoration
Many people naturally fidget when they're thinking, concentrating, or waiting. A spinner ring provides a quiet, discreet way to keep your hands occupied. Some wearers enjoy gently turning the outer band during meetings, while reading, or simply while relaxing. Others appreciate the rhythmic motion as a way to pause and focus.
While spinner rings are sometimes called meditation or anxiety rings, I think of them more simply: they're jewelry that invites interaction.
Handmade Means Every Ring Is Unique
Unlike mass-produced spinner rings, each handmade ring is individually formed, soldered, finished, and fitted. The spinning band must move freely without wobbling excessively. Achieving that balance requires careful sizing and attention to detail. Every edge is finished for comfort, and every surface is polished by hand before the ring leaves my bench.
Sterling Silver and Gold Fill
One of my favorite combinations is sterling silver paired with gold-filled wire. Sterling silver provides strength and a bright, timeless appearance, while the warm gold accent creates contrast without the cost of solid gold.
Gold-filled material contains a thick layer of genuine gold that is permanently bonded to a jeweler's brass core. It offers the beauty of gold along with excellent durability, making it an ideal choice for everyday jewelry.
At the Bench: One of the trickiest parts of making a spinner ring is creating the perfect fit between the base ring and the spinning band. Too loose and it wobbles. Too tight and it won't spin smoothly. Finding that balance is part of what makes each handmade spinner ring unique.
